Providing that Voyages & Journeys have selected the suppliers with reasonable care, Voyages & Journeys will have no liability for anything that happens during the service in question or any acts or omissions of the supplier, its employees or agents. If, notwithstanding the above, any of the Covered Parties is found liable for any loss or damage relating to the use of this website, the client agrees that the liability of any such party shall in no event exceed the fee or charge that the client would have with the respective service or product. Nevertheless, Voyages & Journeys will do its utmost to assist its clients in the event of non-compliance by other parties or any disruption to the desired service, aiming to deliver to the client the product or service that was contracted. ​ 4. E-mail policy: Voyages & Journeys may send e-mail messages about special promotions, new features, services, products, and any other information that considers relevant. However, if the client does not want to receive e-mail messages regarding products and services should contact us or unsubscribe and will be removed from the database. 5. General bookings and reservations: When the client books and makes a reservation must pay 100% of the total price of the purchased service. If the trip booked by the client is a combined program, not subject to automatic reservation procedures, a 50% advance payment shall be made, and the remaining 50% shall be paid until 90 days before the start of the trip (can be less depending on the services contracted and upon agreement). Exceptions are made when suppliers require different payment conditions, regardless of the reservation anticipation, whereby the conditions of those suppliers prevail. If applicable, the client should be informed on the amount to be paid as soon as is informed on the price. The pre-determined payment should be made to confirm the reservation. Reservations shall be conditional upon confirmation of all services by suppliers. A booking is made with Voyages & Journeys when either a client confirms that would like to accept our written or verbal quotation; or when a deposit is made. Deposits are non-refundable. 6. Flight reservations: The responsibility for availability, time, type of equipment, stopovers and airport information falls entirely upon airline companies. The client must reconfirm the flight time(s) with the airline company. Voyages & Journeys cannot be held responsible for any change in flight times by airline companies. Price information given by search tool or travel consultant is based on flight availability for that time and, at least, for 1 passenger. The quoted prices may not include additional services as for instance meals on board, luggage, check-in, etc. The client, if not informed at the moment of the reservation, shall get in contact with Voyages & Journeys. Fares are usually restrictive and non-refundable; this information being made available before reservation. Voyages & Journeys is not responsible for any luggage. The client has the obligation to submit a complaint to the service provider entity in case of deduction, deterioration or destruction of his luggage. In case of damage in his luggage, the complaint shall be addressed in writing to the carrier immediately after the damage, within 7 days at the utmost, from delivery of the same (may vary between airlines). If there is a delay in delivering the luggage, the complaint shall be made within 21 days as from the delivery of the same (also may vary between airlines). The client must have all the personal and family documentation valid, (identity card, military documents, minors travel authorization, visas, vaccination certificate, and/or others that may also be required). Voyages & Journeys declines any responsibility for visa denial or non-permission to enter a country; any cost that the client may incur with this shall entirely be for the client’s account and risk. Furthermore, the client agrees to reimburse Voyages & Journeys in relation to any fines or other losses which we incur as a result of failure to comply with any passport, visa, immigration requirements or health formalities. ​ 7. Accommodation reservations: Voyages & Journeys offers accommodation reservation in its website, through reservation call centres and/or direct contact. Suppliers are entirely responsible for accommodation availability and rates. Disclosed rates are dynamic and are subject to change if reservation is not immediately made. Any special requests shall be reported to service provider and cannot be ensured by Voyages & Journeys. The provider makes available a description of its premises and services, being the only one responsible for the disclosed information. Check-in and check-out times, meal plans and drinks may vary and the client, if not informed at time of reservation, should get in contact with Voyages & Journeys. 8. Car rental: Voyages & Journeys acts as an intermediary between the client and the car rental company, forwarding the car rental requests directly to a third-party. The selected supplier shall be responsible for price information, type of vehicle, delivery location and all other information relating to the car rental. The client, when accepting the reservation is subject to the conditions of the hired car rental company. Voyages & Journeys is not responsible for any supplier default. 9. Changes and cancellations: Whenever a client, registered for a certain trip, wishes to change to a different trip or to a different date, or other possible changes, subject to suppliers allowing the request, the client shall pay the difference in rate, plus the expenses associated with that change itself. Whilst Voyages & Journeys will do the best to assist to accommodate the changes, cannot guarantee that will be able to meet client’s requested change. Whenever there are reasonable reasons beyond Voyages & Journeys’s control, Voyages & Journeys can change the sequence of routes, change the departure times or replace any of the foreseen hotels for other of similar category and location, keeping the client informed of that change as soon as possible. Listed prices are based in the cost of services and exchange rates in force on the date of its publication. Therefore, are subject to change as a result of the cost of transports, fuel, duties, taxes, rates and/or exchange fluctuations before the date of the trip. In case of exchange fluctuations, the calculation shall be made considering the difference between the exchange rate in force on the date of publication and the date on which this change is reported to the client. The client is free to withdraw from the trip at any time. This cancellation requires that the client will be responsible for the payment of any charges and for a percentage that can amount to up 20% of the total price. Please note that in a cancellation (by the client or in exceptional circumstances by Voyages & Journeys), we (Voyages & Journeys) are unable to return any costs that we are unable to recover from suppliers, agents, representatives or other parties or entities involved in the design or implantation of the travel plans. If the client is forced to return home early, Voyages & Journeys cannot refund the cost of any services not used. If the client cuts short a trip and returns home early in circumstances where has no reasonable cause for complaint about the standard services provided, Voyages & Journeys may not offer any refund for that part of the trip not completed, nor be liable for any associated costs incurred. 10. Complaints: Complaints can only be considered if submitted in writing to Voyages & Journeys within 30 days after service provision. In case of complaint due to failure to comply with hired services the client is entitled to apply to the Travel and Tourism Guarantee Fund, submitting a complaint to Turismo de Portugal at www.turismodeportugal.pt within 30 days after: (i) the end of the trip; or (ii) trip cancellation; or (iii) having become aware that the trip cannot be made for any reason ascribable to Voyages & Journeys. 11. Payment: The following payment methods are available: credit card or electronic (bank) transfer. Voyages & Journeys may elect a payment method based on experience in a certain region or for any other reason. Client should be informed on the payment method. Voyages & Journeys reserves the right to return a deposit and decline to issue a confirmation at its absolute discretion. The total amount received in the bank must be no less than the full amount shown on the final invoice and paid in the invoiced denomination. If sending money by electronic transfer, then the client must pay all of own banking fees involved in the transfer. Travel documents are issued after payment and proof of payment. Reservations that have not been paid within the deadlines provided or in case suspicion of fraud can be cancelled. In case of suspicion of fraud with credit cards, Voyages & Journeys may request a copy of the credit card used and a copy of the user’s identification document. In case of a situation of fraud, services are automatically cancelled even if travel documents have already been issued or even if the trip and/or stay has already started. 12. Insurance: It is a condition that the client is fully insured for the selected destinations, activities and personal requirements. Please be advised that insurance should include health and repatriation, including search and rescue for all activities. Policies should also include adequate cancellation and personal belongings (whether by theft, damage or loss) insurance to the full value of the trip and activities. The client can be required to provide documentary evidence of travel insurance prior to departure. Voyages & Journeys reserves the right to refuse participation on a trip if no proof of adequate, valid insurance for the trip and planned activities is provided. Please note that, while we may require evidence that the client has obtained insurance cover, we will not check the chosen insurance policy for suitability, and we make no representations that it is appropriate for the needs. In case of a suspected or confirmed emergency involving the client or the group of which is a member, Voyages & Journeys reserves the right to arrange (or to make arrangements for its or client’s insurers to arrange) search, rescue and recovery as it deems appropriate and reasonable. The client agrees to indemnify Voyages & Journeys and keep Voyages & Journeys indemnified from all costs and losses, arising from any such search, any such helicopter usage and any resulting repatriation (for medical or non-medical reasons), legal costs (if any), and any other cost resulting from it. 13. Legislation and jurisdiction: All disputes arising out of or in connection with the interpretation or execution of these terms and conditions shall be governed by the Portuguese legislation and the Portuguese version of the same shall prevail. 14. This is such a sad development and definitely not worth the amount of money you pay for a yacht charter. It is not the responsibility of the Broker - the Broker is there for the crew, maintenance and yacht management as service to the owner. It is V&J's responsibility to provide an unforgettable itinerary, and that is why we always have a V&J maritime specialist onboard - to support the Captain and Crew wherever needed and guide them through the itinerary. The process of chartering a yacht with V&J goes as follows: 1. Start to understand Client’s past yacht experiences, in order to manage expectations and explain how the process looks like with us. 2. Define the type of yacht that will fit the best with the wishes, budget, destination to explore, and most importantly, the best weather window for such an expedition. 3. Contact the central Broker and Owner of the chosen yacht to confirm requirements and request a draft of the yacht charter contract. What is the difference between a Broker and a central yacht Broker? The central Broker is the direct yacht management company of the yacht, the one that has a direct line with the owner. The majority of all yacht Brokers always have to go to the central yacht Broker. If possible, we try to eliminate this step because it represents a big hazzard for planning and it has many ingredients to jeopardize the ideal planning. We strive to ensure a direct line of communication; one of the keys aspects to safely and successfully operate in maritime environments. 4. After gathering all the information, we will sit down and go through every little detail with the Client, advise and even negotiate on behalf if needed. 5. When every party involved agrees to the terms, before signing the contract we will schedule a site visit to the yacht (if possible), so that the Client can meet the crew and get an impression of the yacht. 6. When the Client gives the green light, the contract will be signed, and the first payments will be made. 7. In the meantime we will start creating the voyage and map out the anchor points, permits, supplies, activities, third parties, docking, flights, safety procedures, etc. This normally happens when you step aboard your vessel and discuss the possibilities with the captain while spending your first night in docks. At V&J we do this inhouse; we operate with our own harbour agencies and local partners around the world, and we communicate this directly to the captain onboard in advanced. Like this we have everything in our control, a direct line of communications, this also takes away some stress points for the captain so that he/ she can fully concentrate on the voyage. 8. When everything is double checked and approved by the Client and owner of the yacht, we request the last payment and confirm every detail. 9. At the end of the voyage, we will receive the APA overview (Advance Provisioning Allowance) - this is the part of the total yacht payment required to cover the flexible costs for preparations, requested supplies, port fees, mooring, permits, fuel, communications, third party services, itinerary, food, beverages, etc. We will go over this overview with the client to see if everything is correct, and the remaining value will be transferred back to the Client. A very important aspect for V&J is that we always suggest adding marine conservation efforts into our yacht expeditions. During the first contacts with the Client, we evaluate the possibility and interest to donate a pre-defined amount of time and space onboard (if applicable) to local or international marine conservation projects. This initiative always results in unforgettable experiences for the Client, such as tagging Tiger Sharks or testing new equipment, restoring Coral Reefs, or creating observation reports about unreachable parts of the ocean. It brings the Client directly in touch with marine life, and it is a true life-enhancing experience. To ensure a memorable yachting experience there is always a V&J yacht specialist onboard during the voyage, so that the Client always has a central point of communication, and the Captain and Crew will have a Focal Point to rely for special operations or to deal with Client’s wish-list. Home - The Numinous - Carlo Huisman Carlo Huisman March-2021 Last week, on the other side of the world, in New Zealand, Carlo Huisman and the Emirates Team New Zealand won the American Cup for the second time in a row – a sailing trophy that has been competing for 170 years and it is the most prestigious prize in the sailing sport. This 36th edition was even more special, once that the spectacular race happened in front of their own home audience, in Waitemata Harbour in Auckland, City of Sails. Past January, we had the amazing opportunity to ask Carlo some questions, and now you can get to know more about this incredible talented sailor, the sailing sport and about New Zealand itself. Carlo Huisman started sailing when he was around 6 years old on the Friese Meren (lakes in the north of The Netherlands ). His dad used to take him and his older brother for sailing trips on platbodems (flat bottom sailing boat ), which in combination with the sailing camps during the summer period made him develop outstanding sailing skills. When Carlo was eleven years old, he started to get more competitive and by the time he turned 16, him and his brother were training in a 470 (double-handed monohull) and competing on a national level. It ended as quickly as it started, until he got invited to join a short offshore race, the Lighthouse Race – that was a turning point and when he really started to enjoy sailing on another level and began to sail exclusively sailing yachts. Today, Carlo Huisman has been a professional sailor for about six years, but he already has a trophy cabinet that only a few can match. He is known as one of the most gifted sailors in the world and together with his Emirates Team New Zealand he won not once but twice, one of the oldest and legendary regattas in the world of sailing – the 35th and the 36th edition of the America Cup – but he also won the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race with record holder Super Maxi Wild Oats; the Med on a Maxi 72; and he participated in the notorious Volvo Ocean Race with Team Brunel. Where does the passion and love for sailing come from? I started sailing at a young age and loved being out on the water. Sailing is a challenging sport which I really enjoy. I have played many different sport’s, but none give me as many challenges as sailing. I think this is the main reason I’ve always come back to sailing, I really believe it’s the most complete and ultimate challenge. You live in the beautiful country of New Zealand, full of exceptional environments. Did you already picked a favourite place to find tranquillity? New Zealand is fantastic and without a doubt one of the best places in the world. I would say my favourite place is the Hauraki Gulf where we train daily with Emirates Team New Zealand. The sailing conditions are perfect, and the scenery is as well. Three years ago, you won the 35th edition of the prestige America Cup, directly after you got selected by Bouwe Bekking for Team Brunel to sail the most challenging race in the world, The Volvo Ocean Race. How was that experience? I was extremely happy to get the opportunity to be part of a Volvo campaign. I never thought I would accomplish this same as the America’s Cup, but it was always a dream of mine. To be able to do both of these amazing sailing challenges back-to-back was unbelievable. Also, the quality of the campaigns I was joining could not be better. First the AC with Emirates Team New Zealand, which is an extremely experienced and well organized team. Then to join Bouwe Bekking for a Volvo, I learned so much from him and he is a fantastic skipper. It was pretty full on. The Volvo was a completely different challenge from the AC. During the AC you work extremely hard, but you still have your moments where you relax and can put your attention and mind to other things. The Volvo I found completely takes over your life and there is nothing else. You put your personal life on hold and focus completely on the race. It’s an extreme challenge and without a doubt the hardest thing I have ever done. We had some pretty bad weather during our lap, to my surprise I never got seasick. The biggest struggle was probably managing sleep. I got better at it after the first few legs but in the beginning I struggled with the lack of sleep a lot. From the start of Cape Town, I really started to enjoy the race a lot more and get comfortable in my role. The Southern Ocean legs and Transat were my favourite, and I liked the equator legs the least. In the end every leg had something special and the highs and lows often follow each other closely. Obviously, I was pretty green when I joined, I had done some offshore races but nothing like the Volvo. It’s quite intimidating but I like a challenge and tried to learn as much as I could from my teammates. It was nice to be part of Team Brunel with some others coming straight out of the AC like me, Peter Burling and Kyle Langford. Seeing them struggle in the beginning made me accept my own mistakes better as well. The way we developed as a team was something pretty special and I have a lot of respect for Bouwe that he kept us together even though the first legs weren't very good. You sailed the famous Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race with a record holder Wild Oats Maxi Yacht - how did you experience this in comparison with sailing a VO65? When they asked me to become bowman for Wild Oats, I was very happy but also intimidated by the role. I knew that it was going to be different from the VO65 and that I would join a very experienced and close team. The guys on the boat sailed together for many years and are all like family. In the beginning it was a bit difficult to mix in and also to learn all the aspects of the boat only a few weeks before the race started. The boat is pretty technical, and you have to communicate very well with the other crew to avoid mistakes. Things can go bad pretty quickly if you make a small mistake or get the timing wrong. After sailing a practice race, we made some significant changes to the boat and sail wardrobe that made it both perform better and also a lot easier to manage the work on the bow. I was impressed that the team and skipper were happy to listen to my feedback. Before there were some peels that were an absolute nightmare. The boat is extremely skinny on the bow and you literally don’t have enough room for the sails, so you have to manage this very carefully. The few days practice we had and changes we made proved crucial because it was a very close race. To sail my first Hobart with Wild Oats and win the Line Honours was unreal, the team did a great job. I feel very fortunate to get all these opportunities and always try to do the very best that I can. What is your favourite highlight so far? I have so many great moments that it would be hard to pick one. Winning the Cup, winning the Southern Ocean Leg with Brunel, becoming world champion with Maxi72 Momo. I just want to keep going and keep improving as a sailor. The world is in the grasp of COVID-19, but gradually there is some light at the end of the tunnel. What is next for you? I have several pretty exciting things lined up for after the Cup but some of it depends on how Covid develops. If the situation becomes better, I’m sure I will be doing a lot of sailing during the European summer. Titouan Bernicot , oprichter en CEO, groeide op op Ahe, een klein atol in het noorden van de Tuamotu-eilanden, waar zijn ouders een parelboerderij hadden. Toen hij 3 jaar oud was, verhuisde hij met zijn gezin naar Moorea, het zustereiland van Tahiti (Frans Polynesië) in de Stille Oceaan. Zover hij zich kan herinneren, bracht hij het grootste deel van zijn tijd door in het water, freediving en surfen, en ontwikkelde hij een diepe verbinding met de oceaan. Frankrijk is het enige land ter wereld met koraalriffen in alle drie de oceanen. 8 Franse gemeenschappen herbergen 10% van de koraalriffen in de wereld (Coral Guardian). In Frans-Polynesië hebben bijna alle 118 eilanden oceaan ecosystemen langs de koraalkust (met uitzondering van de Marquesas eilanden). Deze eilanden liggen niet in de beroemde koraal driehoek, maar verzamelen wel bijna 200 soorten koralen, 1200 soorten vissen en 1000 soorten kreeft achtige. Koraalriffen zijn, samen met tropische wouden, de rijkste en meest productieve ecosystemen ter wereld. Door klimaatverandering stijgen de temperaturen van het oceaanwater en als gevolg daarvan (tussen vele andere negatieve factoren) verbleken de koraalriffen. De oorsprong Het project werd geboren op 28 april 2017 in Moorea. Het team bestaat uit jonge surfers en vissers die de bijnaam de kinderen van de oceaan krijgen. Door de degradatie van riffen de afgelopen jaren, hebben ze besloten actie te ondernemen. Jong en gemotiveerd, lanceerde in 2017 een crowd fundings campagne, ondersteund door voormalig wereldkampioen zwemmen Florent Manaudou. Toen het doel eenmaal was bereikt, kreeg het pers aandacht in veel media, zoals onder andere Le Parisien, Elle magazine, Le Figaro, Paris Match. Dankzij deze fondsen konden ze aan het avontuur beginnen en werd Coral Gardeners officieel opgericht. Tegenwoordig telt het meer dan 20 internationale vrijwilligers, zijn er meer dan 7000 koralen geadopteerd en getransplanteerd in de lagune, en duizenden supporters, hetzij lokale studenten, toeristen of jongeren van over de hele wereld. Het team wil het project nog verder brengen en een wereldwijde beweging van Coral Gardeners lanceren. De grootste dagelijkse uitdagingen Koraal is een uniek en complex wezen. Uit de familie van kwallen en anemonen (cridariërs). Het lijkt op een kleine anemoon die een poliep wordt genoemd. Met het blote oog nauwelijks te zien, bouwt een poliep een kalkachtig skelet op en leeft in een kolonie. Elke poliep in de kolonie bevat miljoenen algen die zoöxanthellen worden genoemd in zijn cellen. Deze twee organismen leven in symbiose. Dit betekent dat hoewel koraal algen bescherming en voedingsstoffen biedt, ze het koraal van energie, voedsel en zuurstof voorzien. De vereniging van alle koralen vormt koraalriffen. Echte onderwaterbossen, ze herbergen 25% van de oceaan biodiversiteit die tot nu toe bekend is. We hebben steeds vaker te maken met koraalverbleking. Wanneer de zeewatertemperatuur stijgt, kan het de symbiose tussen de koraalpoliepen en zijn algen verstoren. De algen worden giftig voor de poliep en verdrijven deze dus. Omdat het de algen zijn die het koraal zijn kleur geven, verliezen kolonies hun kleur om die van de kalksteen aan te nemen die het exoskelet van poliepen vormt: koralen worden wit. Als de situatie te veel dagen aanhoudt, zoals steeds vaker het geval zal zijn door de opwarming van de aarde, gaan koralen dood. Het belang van het redden van de koraalriffen Geschat wordt dat 75% van het koraalrif ter wereld wordt bedreigd door vervuiling, overbevissing, menselijke activiteiten of opwarming van de aarde, en de dekking van koraalriffen is sinds de jaren tachtig al met 30-50% afgenomen. Zonder de juiste maatregelen lopen alle koraalriffen het risico om tegen 2050 te verdwijnen, met desastreuze gevolgen voor het zeeleven. Waarom zijn koraalriffen zo belangrijk voor ons milieu? Terwijl ze minder dan 1% van de oceanen bedekken, herbergen koraalriffen 25% van het bekende zeeleven (bron: IUCN); Zee planten, waaronder de symbiotische algen van koraal, produceren tot 70% van de zuurstof die we inademen (bron: National Geographic); Naar schatting ondersteunen koralen wereldwijd meer dan 500 miljoen mensen rechtstreeks (bron: IUCN) Koraal neemt CO2 op, via hun associatie met algen; Met hun prachtige onderwaterlandschappen genereren koraalriffen elk jaar 36 miljard dollar aan toerisme (bron: ZME Science); Koraalriffen vormen een beschermende barrière tegen stormen en erosie (bron: IPCC); Koralen hebben geneeskrachtige eigenschappen voor behandelingen tegen ziekten zoals kanker of aids. Ze vergroten het bewustzijn over de hele wereld van het verdwijnen van koraalriffen, herstellen beschadigde gebieden en werken samen met wetenschappers om hun koraalhersteltechnieken te verbeteren en door actie te ondernemen om de problemen op te lossen waarmee de riffen worden geconfronteerd. Ze creëren hoop voor koraalriffen door educatie en herstel van koraalriffen. Bewustwording – Ze geloven echt dat bewustwording de sleutel is om een betere toekomst voor de oceanen op te bouwen, door het verhaal van het rif wereldwijd te vertellen, door middel van conferenties, schoollezingen, eco tours of sociale media, hopen zij dat iedereen het belang leert kennen van koraalriffen. Rif restoratie – De eerste stap is het verzamelen van gebroken stukjes koraal en ze vervolgens op bamboestengels leggen. Ze lieten ze een maand op de kweektafels staan voordat ze weer op het rif worden geplant. Dat is de meest efficiënte manier om het rif nieuw leven in te blazen. Wetenschap – Hun wetenschappers volgen de groei van de koralen en verbeteren de methoden en kennis van het rif herstel. Het team van Coral Gardeners werkt eraan om de wereld voor te lichten over bedreigingen voor koraalriffen en om manieren te implementeren om het rif van het eiland te herstellen. De groep transplanteert gezonde koraalfragmenten op het rif om de omgeveving te herbouwen en groei in kwetsbare gebieden te stimuleren.
